Living in southeast MO, you hear dialect from a deep southern drawl to a northern twang all within a short driving distance. It’s almost like we’re a melting pot for them all. Here’s a link that Harvard School did to see if someone spoke like a Yankee or if they were from Dixie. It may not be exactly ‘how’ you say it, but what you actually say that will peg you. How do you speak?
I was 65% Dixie. I was born and raised in southeast MO, except for a two-year tenure out in New Mexico. So though I may not have the ‘southern drawl’, my dialect comes pretty much out of the south.
